This is an original sketch filled with the power, magic and wisdom that comes from the Sonoran Desert.
The Spider is at the center of my art practice as a weaver, storyteller, and grandmother spirit. My grandmother's "virgin energy" was in fact the inspiration for "La Madrada." The spider has inspired humans since the dawn of time and symbolizes: manifestation, female empowerment, wisdom and interconnection.
The Hawk is a bird of prey represented on every continent except Antarctica just like the spider. The hawk is a messenger. It brings the energy of intelligence, independence and can be trusted to deliver important messages.
The Snake is the ultimate representation of fertility, creative life force, transformation, rebirth, and healing. A reminder that change is the only constant.
The web is your story, your importance. The desert symbols are images and important energies from my childhood that I asked Morning Eagle to incorporate. The Saguaro is a powerful and kind grandfather energy and medicine. Rain clouds are for good fortune and blessings. The Thunderbird is for protection and power.
