There is an unmistakable “black Madonna” energy to “La Madrada,” it was born next to the “ Virgin of Montserrat.” When I researched the original meaning for virgin it had nothing to do with sexual status: it meant “a woman wholly unto herself.” Madrada is beyond gender. When I close my eyes and imagine the yin and yang, black and white I see and feel madrada energy in the space between. It is wholeness. It’s one. Earth energy is magic.

“La Madrada” jewelry comes from my original artwork called “Out of the Closet.” I have always felt the murmurs of my ancestors and I was exceptionally close to my maternal grandmother “Aja Henrietta.” She was born in 1925, but lived like she was born in the future: confident, independent, sexy, powerful, and authentic.
