La Madrada, 2014, 5 ½” x 8 ¾,” hand mono print , signed, limited edition black and white print, (1-17), made in Barcelona.
Spring 2014 I was asked to participate in a show in NYC at the LeRoy Neiman Gallery. I went to Az to see my grandmother her last words to me were -- “you are my heart.” she was my best friend. I missed the opening to be with her. I left a couple of weeks later to go to El Bruc to install 7 minutes in heaven.
The original meaning of “VIRGIN” is “ a woman wholly unto herself.”
La Madrada appeared during transition and change. I was not prepared or welcoming, just mourning my previous safety and sense of self. I was losing the ways I was valued in the past. Then my grandmother died. La Madrada helped me discover new strength, flexibility, possibility and vulnerability.
